Community Service

Higher ground

After closing the beloved and much missed One Ninety in Little Haiti; Alan is leading the Higher Ground program an Outreach Program sponsored by The Children’s Trust and coordinated by Citichurch Miami teaching basics of cooking techniques to teenagers in Allapattah.

We have already finished with our first group of kids “graduating” and as an addition to this experience; Alan made arrangements through Donna Freeman-Hughes with David Tornek owner of The Meat Market in Lincoln Road.

“We will take the kids to a prix fixe dinner to experience something they never had before in their lives; it is going to be very sweet; I am very thankful to David and to The Meat Market for helping out in the community”

Juvenile Detention Center

On Friday February the 20th, Alan was a guest speaker at The Miami Dade Regional Detention Center; he spoke to kids between ages 13 and 18 about the possibilities of the hospitality business and the possibilities that lie ahead of them after the inmates are released.

“It was a fascinating experience; at the beggining they were very taken aback; but then they became loose and we did a very fun Q&A. A few ideas sprung out of this experience that might lead me to take further action to help them out”

“Also, at the same time The Wine and Food Festival was going on I felt much better doing something more meaningful…”

Currently Alan is doing Production Catering in Miami and developing his much demanded line of Preserves, Jams and Marmalades.
